2.8.2 OPC cleaning brush mechanism
When filming material sticks to the surface of the
photoconductor, the surface potential is not easily
attenuated by exposure to light, and dirty background
copies will be made. To prevent this, the OPC is
cleaned at power on after 10,000 copies or more are
made.
The fibers (fine wire) of the cleaning brush beat against
the flicker blade. This causes contaminants to drop from
the brush, so that its cleaning action is not interfered
with. During OPC cleaning, the message
"OPC belt is
being cleaned. Please wait"
is displayed.
The OPC brush is made of bundles of fine, stainless
steel wires. The bundles are looped to improve cleaning
force.
The brush roller is moved from side to side by the
oscillating motor during operation. This is to prevent
flaws in the brush and uneven scraping on the OPC.
2.8.3 Pressure mechanism
The OPC cleaning brush is designed to contact the
surface of the photoconductor only when it is operating.
If it is always in contact with the OPC, a latent image
would be broken by the brush.
In the OPC cleaning mode, the OPC cleaning brush
pressure solenoid is turned ON 2 seconds after the OPC
motor is turned ON and the cleaning brush is pressed
against the OPC. One second later, the OPC cleaning
brush drive solenoid is turned ON, and the gear unit
lowers so the gears can engage.
Next, the OPC cleaning brush motor comes ON for 0.05
seconds to engage the gears. After 1 second, the OPC
cleaning brush motor and the oscillating motor come ON.
