EQUIPMENT AND CYLINDER PREPARATION
Note:
It is recommended that packing the liferaft be performed by at least two men.
1.
Place the liferaft on a platform or in an open area with enough room to maneuver the liferaft and
container/valise during packing.
1.
Locate the topping-off (inflate/deflate) valves. Using a vacuum adapter (Part No. 95-41129-101)
connected to a vacuum source, evacuate all air from each compartment in the following order:
the floor compartment, the buoyancy tube(s), and the arch-tube. Re-cap the topping-off valves in
each compartment as deflation progresses to prevent ingress of air. (See Fig. 8)
FIGURE 8 – DEFLATING THE RAFT
2.
As each chamber is vacuumed, adjust the buoyancy tubes, the arch-tube, etc. so that, with the
minimum number of creases, they lay flat on each other. A clear indication of a completely
vacuumed chamber is that the fabric creases become sharp and well defined. Be sure the canopy
door is open and that the window is zipped shut.
Note:
It is ESSENTIAL that the chambers are completely vacuumed since any air left
in them will make it very difficult to properly pack the liferaft and associated
equipment into the container/valise.
