CHARGING THE CYLINDER
1. Screw syphon tube to the bottom of the cylinder adapter until finger tight. Then tighten with
pliers until snug (approximately an additional 1/8
th
turn).
2. To prepare the cylinder for charging, secure the cylinder using a cylinder vice.
3. Remove the diffuser cap for cylinder adapter. While wearing a pair of work gloves, screw bare
cylinder adapter (without Teflon tape) into cylinder until hand tight (about 10 turns without
Teflon tape). Then remove adapter. This will check for any poor threads, burrs, or cross-threads.
4. Wrap cylinder adapter threads with two layers (about six complete wraps) of Teflon tape and
attach the cylinder adapter to the cylinder.
5. Wearing work gloves, hand tighten cylinder adapter fully (about 8-1/2 turns with Telfon tape)
followed by wrenching (3 turns).
6. Insert diaphragm into the top of the cylinder adapter and tighten.
7. Weigh the empty cylinder, i.e. the cylinder with the adapter and diaphragm and write the empty
(tare) weight onto the cylinder label.
8. Inspect the condition of the cylinder recharge device and the o-rings. If damaged, replace the o-
rings. It is important that the o-rings are genuine, not warn or compressed. If so it will reduce
opening facilities of the diaphragm and through that, the charging facilities as well. Fit the
cylinder recharge device onto the cylinder adapter and tighten up the filling head by hand or with
an open spanner wrench until tight. See Figure A.
9. Turn the handle of the cylinder recharging device counter-clockwise to loosen the diaphragm
before charging.
10. Via the cylinder recharge device, charge N
2
until the correct weight shown in Table 1 is reached.
Then write the weight on the cylinder label.
11. Without closing the diaphragm, charge CO
2
until the correct weight shown in Table 1 is reached.
Then weight on the cylinder label.
12. Close off charging gas supplies to the cylinder recharge device. Depressurize the cylinder
recharge device by carefully releasing the charging hose connection.
13. Close the diaphragm tight against the seat to a torque of 4-50Nm (29-36 ft-lbs.)
Caution:
Ensure cylinder recharging device and charging hose are completely
depressurized before disconnecting.
