Installing hard disk and solid state drives
There are two basic steps to installing a drive. First, the drive must be installed into a drive
carrier, and then the drive carrier assembly is inserted into a drive bay in the chassis.
The basic configuration of the R220 supports up to five 2.5" SAS/SATA hard disk drives (HDDs)
or solid state drives (SSDs) installed in drive bays 0-4 in the chassis. Up to three additional
drives can be installed in the top I/O module bays (2-4) with purchase of optional drive cages
designed for the I/O bays.

Note:
Not all drives are designed to operate in environments in which the R220 system is
intended to be used. Industrial usage, for example, may subject the system to operating
temperatures outside the operating range of standard HDDs or SSDs. Before installing any
drive in the R220, be sure that it is rated to operate in the environment where it will be used.
