Two host-side USB ports are provided on the front panel. The USB root hub is built
into the PIIX3 chip as part of the 82430HX chip set. The USB’s PCI configuration
registers are located as function 2 of the PIIX3 configuration space.
Floppy Controller
The SMC FC37C665IR Super I/O chip, used to implement the serial and parallel
ports, is also used to implement a standard PC floppy disk port. The device resides on
the ISA bus, and is accessed at the standard PC I/O addresses of 3F0h-3F7h.
Interrupts are signaled on IRQ6.
The floppy interface connector is located on the I/O board and is not available at the
front panel because it is normally only used for diagnostics or for initializing the hard
disk(s).
PCI/VME Bridge
The VMEbus interface on the EPC-9 is controlled by a single chip: the Tundra
Semiconductor, Universe PCI/VME bridge. The Universe controls a layer of buffers
between it and the VMEbus, and has a glueless interface to the PCIbus.
The VMEbus interface uses both the P1 and P2 connectors to allow an addressing
space of A16/A24/A32 with D08/D16 and D32 data accesses. It uses PCI INTD and
bus mastering lines. The VME bus interface includes the following features:
1.
Full VMEbus System Controller (Slot 1) features including bus
arbiter, bus timeout, IACK daisy chain driver, SYSCLK driver.
2.
Master control in A16/A24/A32 address spaces for D08/D16 and
D32 data widths
3.
Responds as D08/D16 and D32 slave in A16/A24/A32 address
spaces.
4.
Generates and responds to all 7 VMEbus interrupts.
5.
VME registers can be accessed from either the Pentium or
VMEbus.
The EPC-9 presents a single load on all VMEbus signals.
