In principle, the electrode does the same as
a root: it withdraws nutrients from the soil.
As in both cases, the conditions in the soil
are the same, the measurement will take all
properties of the soil, which are known to
determine the nutrient activity, into account.
Controlling the cultures using AM measure-
ments in combination with soil examinations
will guarantee maximum yields. The prelimi-
nary approximate values (tables) were taken
in sufficiently moist soil (not irrigated); they
apply to the main growth stage. During blos-
soming and ripening time, the values should
not drop below 0.1 g/l.
The culture values given in the tables were
taken at soil temperatures of 18 °C to 20 °C.
A difference of 1 °C will change the value by
2.5 %.
Humidity, the temperature and properties of
the soil will influence the activity of the salt
ions; however, roots will be subject to the
same conditions when taking up nutrients.
This means that the values taken are compa-
rable to the nutrient uptake by a root at the
time of measurement.
In horticulture, landscape architecture, nur-
sery gardens, forests and all other areas
where plants are cultivated, this instrument
serves to safeguard cultivation measures, to
verify / control measures taken or planned, to
guarantee safety and to lay the foundation of
an optimum cultivation success. The MULTI
2000 makes an important contribution to envi-
ronmental protection. For practitioners and
advisors alike, it is of indispensable assis-
tance.
