INITIAL CONFIGURATION
This chapter describes how to perform the initial configuration steps to create a server cluster. There are two
methods available. The recommended method is to use the
Cluster Wizard
to configure network settings, create
storage volumes and spare drives, and create the cluster for storage management.
The initial setup tasks using the Cluster Wizard are as follows:
•
Logging in
and using the configuration menus, including the
Text Menu
,
Cluster Wizard
in the CLI
menu, and web GUI. First login to the Text Menu and use that to launch the CLI menu and Cluster Wizard.
Use the Cluster Wizard to setup the following:
•
Networking Settings
: Configure port bonding, IP settings for external and internal data networks, as
well as NTP server IP address.
•
Storage Settings
: Create a storage volume on Vess R2000 backend storage system.
•
Cluster Setup
: Create a server cluster or join an existing cluster Once the cluster is created, in
order to start using it, you first need to enter the license key. This is the final step needed before the
system can be managed via the web interface.
•
Virtual Storage:
After completing the tasks listed above, you will switch to the web GUI for administration
of the server cluster. The first task in the web GUI will be to create virtual storage using the volume set up
for this purpose on the Vess R2000 subsystem.
Another alternative to using the Cluster Wizard, is to use the Text Menu for configuration of network settings
and cluster setup. In this case, you will use the CLI menu to access the Vess R2000 subsystem and setup storage
volumes and spare drives using Vess R2000 CLI commands. The setup instructions using the Text Menu are
located in the final sections of this chapter. You will still need to setup the virtual storage with the web GUI if you
choose this option.
