Maintenance, Car Care
Power Steering
Warning!
Risk of accident. When the engine is
stationary (e.g. when the car is on tow) or the
hydraulic system fails, there is no power
assisted steering.
Therefore, substantially more force will have
to be exerted.
f
Exercise great care when on tow.
f
Have the fault remedied.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop. We
recommend a Porsche partner for this work as
they have trained workshop personnel and the
necessary parts and tools.
Note
The flow noise heard at full steering lock is system
related and does not indicate a defect in the
steering system.
Checking hydraulic fluid
f
Please observe the chapter “NOTES ON
MAINTENANCE” on page 176.
f
Only use genuine Porsche hydraulic fluid or a
hydraulic fluid of similar quality which has been
approved according to Porsche specifications
and product requirements.
Check the fluid level with the engine stopped and
cold
(approx. 20 °C (68 °F)).
1. Start the engine and let it idle for approx.
20 seconds. Switch off the engine.
2. Open the engine compartment lid.
3. Open the reservoir cap.
4. Wipe dipstick.
Close the cap and re-open. The fluid level
should be below the “Cold” mark.
Add hydraulic fluid if necessary.
5. Close cap carefully.
f
If the fluid level has dropped significantly, have
the cause remedied immediately.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop. We
recommend a Porsche partner for this work as
they have trained workshop personnel and the
necessary parts and tools.
