Choosing the input signal
On this r eceive r , it is p ossible to switch the in p ut signals
fo r the diffe r ent in p uts as desc r ibed below.

• Press , then press SIGNAL SEL to select
the input signal corresponding to the source
component.
Each pr ess cycles th r ough the o p tions as follows:
• AUTO – The r eceive r selects the fi r st available signal

– WMA9 Pro lights to indicate that a WMA9 P r o signal
is being decoded.

Better sound using Phase Control and
Full Band Phase Control
This r eceive r is equi pp ed with the two ty p es of functions
that co rr ect p hase disto r tion and g r ou p delay: Phase
Cont r ol and Full Band Phase Cont r ol. Activating Full
Band Phase Cont r ol is st r ongly r ecommended because it
also involves the effects of Phase Cont r ol. Fo r details on
each of these two featu r es, r efe r to the following
ex p lanations.
Using Phase Control
Du r ing multichannel p layback, LFE (Low-F r equency
Effects) signals as well as low-f r equency signals in each
channel a r e assigned to the subwoofe r o r the othe r most
a ppr o pr iate s p eake r . At least in theo r y, howeve r , this ty p e
of pr ocessing involves a g r ou p delay that va r ies with
f r equency, r esulting in p hase disto r tion whe r e the low-
f r equency sound is delayed o r muffled by the conflict
with othe r channels. With the Phase Cont r ol mode
switched on, this r eceive r can r e pr oduce p owe r ful bass
sound without dete r io r ating the quality of the o r iginal
sound (see illust r ation below).

1 • This r eceive r can only p lay back Dolby Digital, PCM (32 kHz to 192 kHz), DTS (including DTS 96/24) and WMA9 P r o digital signal fo r mats.

• You may get digital noise when a LD o r CD p laye r com p atible with DTS is p laying an analog signal. To pr event noise, make the pr o p e r digital
connections ( p age 32) and set the signal in p ut to DIGITAL .
• Some DVD p laye r s don’t out p ut DTS signals. Fo r mo r e details, r efe r to the inst r uction manual su pp lied with you r DVD p laye r .
2 When the HDMI audio out p ut p a r amete r is set to THROUGH , the sound will be hea r d th r ough you r TV, not f r om this r eceive r .
3 • This is useful if you find the r e is a slight delay befo r e AUTO r ecognizes the PCM signal on a CD, fo r instance.
• When PCM is selected, noise may be out p ut du r ing p layback of non-PCM sou r ces. Please select anothe r in p ut signal if this is a pr oblem.
