Dolby Digital Plus
Dolby Digital Plus is the next-gene r ation audio
technology fo r all high-definition pr og r amming and
media. It combines the efficiency to meet futu r e
b r oadcast demands with the p owe r and flexibility to
r ealize the full audio p otential ex p ected in the u p coming
high-definition e r a. Built on Dolby Digital, the multi-
channel audio standa r d fo r DVD and HD b r oadcasts
wo r ldwide, Dolby Digital Plus was designed fo r the next-
gene r ation A/V r eceive r s but r emains fully com p atible
with all cu rr ent A/V r eceive r s.
Dolby Digital Plus delive r s multi-channel audio pr og r ams
of u p to 7.1 channels (*) and su pp o r ts multi p le pr og r ams
in a single encoded bitst r eam with the maximum bit r ate
p otential of u p to 6 Mb p s and the maximum bit r ate
p e r fo r mance of u p to 3 Mb p s on HD DVD and 1.7 Mb p s
on Blu- r ay Disc, and it out p uts Dolby Digital bitst r eams
fo r p layback on existing Dolby Digital systems. Dolby
Digital Plus can accu r ately r e pr oduce the sound
o r iginally intended by di r ecto r s and pr oduce r s.
It also featu r es multi-channel sound with disc r ete
channel out p ut, inte r active mixing and st r eaming
ca p ability in advanced systems. Su pp o r ted by High-
Definition Media Inte r face (HDMI), a single-cable digital
connection is p ossible fo r high-definition audio and video.
Dolby TrueHD
Dolby T r ueHD is the next-gene r ation lossless encoding
technology develo p ed fo r high-definition o p tical discs in
the u p coming e r a. Dolby T r ueHD delive r s tantalizing
sound that is bit-fo r -bit identical to the studio maste r ,
unlocking the t r ue high-definition ente r tainment
ex p e r ience on high-definition o p tical discs in the next
gene r ation. When cou p led with high-definition video,
Dolby T r ueHD offe r s an un pr ecedented home theate r
ex p e r ience with stunning sound and high-definition
p ictu r e.
It su pp o r ts bit r ates of u p to 18 Mb p s and r eco r ds u p to 8
full- r ange channels (*) individually with 24-bit/96 kHz
audio. It also featu r es extensive metadata including
dialogue no r malization and dynamic r ange cont r ol.
Su pp o r ted by High-Definition Media Inte r face (HDMI), a
single-cable digital connection is p ossible fo r high-
definition audio and video.
HD DVD and Blu- r ay Disc standa r ds cu rr ently limit thei r
maximum numbe r of audio channels to eight, whe r eas
Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby T r ueHD su pp o r t mo r e than
eight audio channels.

DTS Digital Surround
DTS Digital Su rr ound is a 5.1-channel audio coding
system f r om DTS Inc. now widely used fo r DVD-Video,
DVD-Audio, 5.1 music discs, digital b r oadcasts, and
video games. It can delive r u p to six disc r ete audio
channels, com pr ising five full r ange channels, including
an LFE channel. Highe r sound quality is achieved
th r ough the use of a low com pr ession r ate, and high
r ates of t r ansmittance du r ing p layback.
DTS-ES
DTS-ES (the ES stands fo r Extended Su rr ound) is a
decode r that is ca p able of decoding both DTS-ES
Disc r ete 6.1 and DTS-ES Mat r ix 6.1 encoded sou r ces.
DTS-ES Disc r ete 6.1 gives ‘t r ue’ 6.1 channel sound, with
a com p letely se p a r ate (disc r ete) su rr ound back channel.
DTS-ES Mat r ix 6.1 has a su rr ound back channel mat r ixed
into the su rr ound left/ r ight channels. Both sou r ces a r e
also com p atible with a conventional DTS 5.1 channel
decode r .
DTS Neo:6
DTS Neo:6 can gene r ate 7.1 channel su rr ound sound
f r om any mat r ixed ste r eo sou r ce (such as video o r TV)
and f r om 5.1 channel sou r ces. It uses both the channel
info r mation al r eady encoded into the sou r ce, as well as
its own pr ocessing to dete r mine channel localization
(with two channel sou r ces, the “.1” subwoofe r channel is
gene r ated by bass management in the r eceive r ). Two
modes (Cinema and Music) a r e available using DTS
Neo:6 with two channel sou r ces.
DTS 96/24
DTS 96/24 is an extension of the o r iginal DTS Digital
Su rr ound which offe r s high quality 96 kHz/24-bit audio
using a DTS 96/24 decode r . This fo r mat is also fully
backwa r d com p atible with all existing decode r s. This
means that DVD p laye r s can p lay this softwa r e using a
conventional DTS 5.1 channel decode r .
DTS-EXPRESS
DTS-EXPRESS is a low-bit r ate encoding technology
su pp o r ting u p to 5.1 channels with fixed data t r ansfe r
r ates. This fo r mat is inco rp o r ated with sub audio on HD
DVD and seconda r y audio on Blu- r ay Disc while boasting
the p otential a pp licability to u p coming b r oadcasts and
memo r y audio contents.
