Troubleshooting a Cordless System: an Overview
Troubleshooting a cordless system presents some unique challenges. These arise from several assemblies
acquiring signals, processing signals, and transmitting/receiving signals. Problems can result from
hardware and communications failures, or can be RF-related.
In the case of a suspected malfunction it is important to first verify that the malfunction is a genuine
failure. This can be checked by:
– Resetting the system
– Checking/cleaning the charge/communication contacts
– Checking the fetal monitor and antenna
In rare cases, transducers may display a hook
" _/ " when docked to a mains-powered base
station.
This indicates a problem with a reed relay for
detecting a docked transducer. It consists of a magnet
in the base station and a reed switch in the transducer.
To troubleshoot this problem:
• Try another (good) transducer in the same slot. If
this one also indicates a hook, then the magnet in
the basestation is not positioned correctly.
• Place the transducer indicating a hook into another
slot. If the hook is shown again, then the reed
switch in the transducer may be defective. Confirm
by docking another (good) transducer into the
same slots. It should now NOT show a hook.
Operation blocked due to an error E1
An error has occurred which may indicate a device
defect.
• Try to clear the error by docking the transducer
and pressing the "C" key on the base station for
two seconds.
• If the error persists unplug the power cord for a
few seconds (system reset).
• Additional problem information can be obtained
with the Service Support Tool by reading the
"Factory Info Code" with transducers docked (see
“Factory Information Code Log” on page 78).
If error E1 persists or appears repeatedly, a hardware
exchange may be required. If possible, move the
affected transducer to another base station or use a
2nd transducer of the same type on the 1st base
station, thereby checking if the error goes with the
transducer or stays with the 1st base station.
