Touch io Instruction Manual
User Access to the Organization
Once the user accepts and completes the mobile
touch io
credential process, it is automatically stored on
the mobile device. An
or Wi-Fi connection is NOT required on the mobile device for credential use.
The required distance to grant access is configured in the touch App and may be done by anyone who has
been granted credentialed access. See Bluetooth
Range
for information about setting credential access
distance.
When accessing the organization and its
touch io
readers, the mobile app does not need to be active in the
foreground. As long as the
touch App
is running in the background on a smart device, the credential can
grant access. If the
touch App
is force-closed and no longer running in the background, the mobile device
cannot grant access.
For the
touch App
to work optimally, both the mobile device and the
touch io
reader firmware should
contain the latest versions to ensure their best functionality.
NOTE
: If a problem occurs during or after a
touch io
firmware update, see

Touch App Configurations
Inside/Out Technology
Unlike other Bluetooth readers, the
touch io
reader uses
Inside/Out technology
to prevent accidental or
unauthorized access. Using advanced hardware and technology, the reader detects the location of the user’s
smart device and determines whether the user is
outside
the door with the
touch io
reader prior to gaining
access, or
inside
, having successfully been granted access.
The
touch io
Inside/Out Technology
is comprised of a small, simple, high-sensitivity patch antenna mounted to
the
inside
wall opposite to the wall-mounted
touch io
. The antenna senses the strength of the signal from the
credentialed smart device to make that determination.
Inside/Out Technology
determines the exact location
of a user’s phone in relation to the
touch io
reader. It intelligently detects whether an authorized user is
inside
the room (the same side as the patch antenna) or
outside
of the room (in proximity to the
touch io
reader) before granting access to a room, building, or campus. This system acts as a one-way filter that
allows only authorized users to pass through the entryway. It prevents
unauthorized
persons from gaining
access to a facility when an
authorized
person is inside and within reading range of a
touch io
reader.
