2.2.02 Spacing
Spacing is performed when the space motor drives the carriage along the carriage shaft, parallel to the
platen. The spacing mechanism consists of the items listed below.
Space Motor
Drive Pulley
Idle Pulley
Carriage Shaft
Carriage Frame
Space Belt
Spacing Operation
The carriage containing the printhead moves parallel to the platen along the main carriage shaft. Power
from the space motor is transferred via the space belt, which is attached to the bottom of the carriage
frame. The carriage is designed to move 0.8 inches when the servo motor performs one rotation.
