Chapter 4 Failure & Repair Analysis
Procedure
1. Load continuous feed paper.
2. Verify that the printer is selected (SELECT lamp is lit).
3. Press the FONT and PITCH buttons at the same time. This places the printer in Menu Mode.
The SELECT lamp will go out.
4. Press GROUP until you access the Serial Interface group.
5. Press ITEM until you access the Diagnostic Test item.
6. Press SET until YES is specified.
7. Press SELECT to exit Menu Mode.
8. Power OFF the printer.
9. Remove the serial interface cable.
10. Install the test connector.
11. Power ON the printer. This will start the test.
12. The printer will check the memory function and the signal logic.
If both are functioning properly, the following will be printed.
LOOP TEST RAM GOOD I/F GOOD
If either is malfunctioning, the following will be printed.
LOOP TEST RAM BAD (if the memory function is faulty) I/F BAD (if the signal logic is faulty)
13. The printer will generate a test pattern, send the data through its transmit and receive circuits,
and write the data to its message buffer. It will then print the stored data. The test pattern consists of the
ASCII characters equivalent to the decimal values 32 to 126. The process repeats until the test is stopped.
14. Press MODE to stop the test.
15. Remove the test connector.
16. Install the serial interface cable.
17. Power OFF the printer.
18. Press and hold FONT while powering ON the printer. This will place the printer in Menu Mode.
