7.6 Power-Saving Feature
The power-saving feature includes the default power-saving function and the expanded power-saving function
(suspend and sleep). Settings for this feature can be made with 0x80 of the unique MAC PIB ID. Table 7.6.1
shows the details.

Description

power

MAC autonomously switches the frequency of the CPU clock between 16MHz and
2MHz.
When MAC is executing communication processing, the operating frequency is 16
MHz. When it is waiting for data from the HOST, waiting for data from PHY, or
waiting for events within MAC, the operating frequency is 2 MHz.
0x01
Suspend
The suspend function autonomously starts or stops supply from PLL.
For PAN with beacons:
The default power-saving function will be in effect in the active sections of super
frames.
The following power-saving function will be in effect in inactive sections of super
frames.
The coordinator or the device synchronous to beacons will stop the CPU clock.
For PAN without beacons:
For the coordinator, the suspend function will not be executed. The default
power-saving function will be in effect.
The suspend status will be in effect when the device is waiting for data from the
HOST, data from PHY, or events within MAC. After a REQUEST primitive is
received from the HOST, the suspend status will be cancelled. After a CONFIRM
is transmitted to the HOST, the suspend status starts in 10 ms.
0x02
Sleep
The sleep function autonomously activates or deactivates the transmission circuit.
For PAN with beacons:
The sleep function will not operate for the coordinator or devices synchronous to
beacons. The default power-saving function will be in effect.
For PAN without beacons:
For the coordinator, the sleep function will not be executed. The default
power-saving function will be in effect.
The sleep status will be in effect when the device is waiting for data from the
HOST, data from PHY, or events within MAC. After a REQUEST primitive is
received from the HOST, the sleep status will be cancelled. After a CONFIRM is
transmitted to the HOST, the sleep status starts in 10 ms.
0x03 No
power
saving
The CPU clock frequency is fixed at 16 MHz.
* The power-saving efficiency is higher in the order of default power-saving, suspend, and sleep functions;
however, all the functions will be equally efficient under certain conditions.
