Water ballast

The ITUS was not designed to be flown with water ballast. A small amount (up
to four litres) can be placed in the rear storage compartment. A large ballast bag
with loops can be attached to the main hang points. In this case it is essential to
check the distance: the ballast bag must not reduce the chest-strap width, i.e.
the distance between the risers. Attaching the ballast bag to the hang points also
changes the flying characteristics of the wing.

Schools

This harness is excellent for use in paragliding schools. It is light and compact,
offers a high degree of passive safety and freedom of movement on the ground.
A radio can be attached to the shoulder strap using the radio pocket (optional).

Towing

The ITUS is suitable for towing. For questions on towing please contact your NOVA
Partner. Before take off, speak to the winch driver – especially if it is the first time
you have used the winch. It is essential to use a tow release.

Tandem

The harness is only partially suitable for the passenger and not at all for the pilot
of a tandem glider. When using the ITUS as a passenger harness, we recommend
removing the parachute to avoid an accidental deployment.

Care, repair and maintenance

Maintenance

Our harnesses are made from durable materials that can withstand a lot of usage
and stress. However, how the harness is treated is a major factor in how long it
is usable. We recommend regularly checking the harness for wear and damaged
stitching or straps.
If you notice any faults, we recommend contacting your NOVA Service Partner
immediately. If you find any faults in critical structural parts (straps, buckles,
carabiners, hang points) we recommend you do not use the harness! Do not
modify the harness. For repairs please contact one of our approved service centres.
A visual inspection of the harness should be performed annually. This should

include a careful inspection of seams, straps and buckles. This inspection can be
combined with a parachute repack. If you have deployed the parachute, we recom-
mend inspecting the connecting strap and hang points. This inspection should be
performed by an approved service centre. Minimise the unnecessary exposure of
your harness to UV radiation. Avoid temperatures below -20˚C and above 60˚C.
Protect it from moisture, salt water, acid or base liquids and treat it well. Look after
it and store it as recommended.

The following points are pertinent to its longevity:
•  Do not expose the harness to large temperature fluctuations (e.g. in your

car). During long-term storage make sure there is plenty of ventilation and air
circulation (to minimise condensation).

•  After landing, pack the harness away quickly. This protects it from harmful

UV rays.

•  If the harness is damp, dry it at room temperature either inside or outside in a

shady place. Please note: repack your parachute!

•  If the harness comes into contact with salt water, it must be thoroughly cleaned

in fresh water. Then follow the steps described above to dry it.

•  In the case of an incident (e.g. a hard scuff or an impact), ask an expert to examine

it.

•  Only use fresh water and a soft brush to clean the harness.
• Regularly check straps, seams and buckles. These must be undamaged.
• Regularly check the parachute connection strap.
• Regularly check the parachute handle. Especially the closing pins.
•  Store the harness so that the airbag can fully expand and never remains

compressed for long periods of time.

Please read your parachute manual and make note of the required repacking
intervals. If the parachute becomes too hot, is exposed to mechanical stress or
becomes damp/wet it should be immediately aired and repacked.
