Choosing a parachute
On the ITUS, the parachute container is located under the seat plate. The volume of
the parachute container automatically adjusts to the the volume of the parachute.
Choose a parachute with a volume that is within the permissible volume ranges
given above. Adjust the volume so that the parachute is secured, but it is not too
tight. On the one hand it must never move or rotate within the container, but on the
other hand, it must be easy to deploy.
Modern parachutes generally fit well in the deployment bag of the ITUS and
therefore also fit into the parachute container. Very large parachutes (more
common in older models) may struggle to fit into the deployment bag or the
container. If the parachute is too tight, we recommend using a parachute with a
smaller volume. In every case a compatibility check must be performed. This will
determine if the parachute and harness are compatible. If they are incompatible,
another parachute must be selected.
Steerable parachutes
The ITUS can be fitted with a steerable parachute like the BEAMER, which is
available from High Adventure. This means that the risers of the Beamer must be
connected to the main parachute connection points. These are located in the neck
area and can be reached by opening the red zip slider on the connection bridle pocket.
The connection bridle should be connected using a screwgate carabiner (minimum
breaking load 2400 daN). Please secure both straps with O-rings or insulating
tape. As with standard parachutes, steerable parachutes also require a
compatibility check. NOVA recommends that this is performed at an approved
service centre.
Speed system
The harness is delivered with the speed-bar pre-adjusted. This pre-adjustment
is adapted to NOVA standard risers and an average leg length. This standard
adjustment may need to be changed to suit individual pilot requirements.
The correct length adjustment is important. If the cords are too short, there is
the danger that the wing is constantly accelerated, which should be avoided at all
costs. If the cords are too short there is also the possibility that the speed-bar is
unreachable. If the cords are set too long, it is not possible to accelerate the wing
to its maximum speed.
We recommend setting the cords a little too long when first fitting the speed
system, so that the free play can be judged during flight. As a result, the cords can
be shortened by the length of this free play.
To adjust the length, loosen the cord in the three-holed attachment point of
the carbon speed-bar. Then the length can be easily adjusted to make it longer or
shorter. The white mark should assist to make the adjustments symmetrical.
Optional stirrup
The ITUS is equipped with tabs which can be used to fit a stirrup. The stirrup can
be fitted to the harness using a screwgate carabiner.
Optional cockpit
The carabiners on the main hang points can be used to secure a cockpit.
Installing the parachute
General
The combination of harness and rescue parachute cannot be standardised.
Parachute volumes vary depending on size and packing technique. There-
fore the deployment bag of the ITUS is equipped with an automatic com-
pression adjustment. This means that the volume of the parachute container
does not need to be adjusted manually. The volume of the parachute must not
exceed or be smaller than the maximum or minimum harness size.
Size S: 2.5 – 4.3 litres; Size M: 2.5 – 4.5 litres; Size L: 3.5 – 5.5 litres. For
reasons of safety, compatibility checking and parachute installation should be
performed by an expert. We recommend contacting your NOVA Service Partner:
