The correct functioning of the airbag can be
checked as follows:
• Are the materials of the harness intact? (e.g. is
the polycarbonate plate deformed, internal wires
bent, cloth damaged)
• Does the airbag provide the usual air pressure
resistance when pressing out the air? (e.g. when
packing)
If this is not the case, contact a NOVA Service Partner
immediately.
When inspecting the harness, the functional check of the airbag is an important and
necessary step.
Furthermore, the protector must be inspected for wear, tear and signs of ageing. As
soon as a protector shows visible damage due to improper storage, wear of an unusual
type/extent or due to aging, this airbag can no longer provide the intended protection
and must be replaced with a new protector of the same type.
Possible damage to the airbag may include the following: damage to the textile
cover caused by tears, holes or damage to the seams, as well as damage to the poly-
carbonate plate or permanent deformation of the steel wire, incomplete full expansion
of the airbag volume or reduced recovery after compression.
Detachable hiking rucksack
To use the ITUS as a simple lightweight harness instead of a reversible har-
ness, the rucksack can be detached. Simply open the storage compart-
ment of the harness fully and find the zip running around the back of the
harness right next to the certification label. Follow this zip downwards un-
til a Velcro strip intersects the zip. Open the Velcro strip and open the zip
completely until it detaches. As soon as the zip ends are separated from each other,
the rucksack can be removed from the Velcro at the back.
Now a narrow vertical mesh pocket where the cover is stowed can be seen to the right
of the SAS-TEC protector (direction of flight). Remove the cover from the pocket and
zip it to the harness. The zip slider should be pushed to the end of the zip in order to
be completely covered by the resulting overlap. Then the Velcro tab of the zip slider is
fastened again to prevent unintentional opening of the zip.
To attach the rucksack to the harness again, follow the above procedure in reverse
order.
Important:
when the rucksack is re-attached to the harness, make sure that the Velcro
surfaces of the rucksack are
tightly bonded
with the Velcro surfaces of the harness
before closing the zip. This is the only way to ensure comfort in harness mode as well
as in rucksack mode as the SAS-TEC protector effectively contributes to the wearing
comfort of the rucksack!
