Operation 51 - Batteries
WARNING:
EXTINGUISH ALL SMOKING MATERIALS AND OPEN FLAMES WHEN WORKING
AROUND BATTERIES. BATTERY GAS IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE.
The batteries are "Maintenance Free" and do not require electrolyte level checks. The batteries are 12 volt and connect
in parallel to provide 12 volts to the electrical system.
IMPORTANT:
Whenever working around batteries, disconnect the master switch.
Keep the batteries clean and protect terminals with terminal boots.
Replace both batteries at the same time. Replacing individually will overwork the new battery, reducing its useful life.
WARNING:
BATTERY POSTS, TERMINALS AND RELATED ACCESSORIES CONTAIN LEAD
COMPOUNDS, CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER AND
REPRODUCTIVE HARM. WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING.
Replacing Batteries
1. Remove the lower rear panel.
2. Disconnect negative cable from both batteries.
3. Disconnect positive cable from both batteries.
4. Remove nuts from retaining rods. Remove angle bracket.
5. Use carrier straps to lift and remove batteries. Dispose of old
batteries according to federal, state and local laws.
6. Secure new batteries in place with angle bracket and rods.
WARNING:
INSTALL BATTERIES IN SAME MANNER AS OLD BATTERIES. BE SURE POLARITY OF
TERMINALS IS SIMILAR.
7. Connect positive cable to positive terminal on both batteries.
8. Connect negative cable to negative terminal on both batteries.
9. Install lower rear panel. Torque bolts to 122--136 N×m (90--100 lb-ft.). Install grill. Torque retainer bolts to 34
N×m (25 lb-ft.).
10. Charge batteries in accordance with battery manufacturer's instructions.
