Cold-Engine Starting with Ether Aid (Optional) - CUMMINS ENGINE ONLY
An optional ether aid is available for starting the engine in cold climates.
It is automatically activated by the engine start switch when the engine
water temperature is below 100F. When engine water temperature is
below 100F a preset shot of ether is injected into the engine.
1. Set throttle control lever to 1/4 to 1/2 speed.
2. Insert key in ignition switch and turn clockwise to START. If engine
water temperature is not above 100F the preset shot of ether is injected
into the engine while the engine is cranking.
3. Once engine starts, immediately pull throttle control lever rearward to
idle engine. Once ether has burned out, increase throttle control lever to
between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle. Allow coolant and lubricant to circulate for
at least 5 minutes before applying load.
IMPORTANT:
Do not operate engine speed above 1/4 throttle until
engine has been warmed up. Lack of lubrication may cause engine
damage.

DO NOT USE AEROSOL TYPES OF STARTING AIDS SUCH AS ETHER. SUCH USE
COULD RESULT IN AN EXPLOSION AND PERSONAL INJURY.
