4 Using the Portable Vacuum Unit
The Portable Vacuum Unit can be used for several dif-
ferent applications e.g. cleaning, vacuum cleaning, va-
cuuming metal chips from hand-held grinding and cut-
ting machines, for welding smoke, etc.
WARNING! Risk of personal injury
Before starting for the first time, the electrical
connector should be fitted by a person with the
necessary knowledge and the overload pro-
tector’s setting checked.
NOTE!
• There are important exceptions, see
Chapter 2 Safety . Oil mist can clog the filters.
• During starting, the Portable Vacuum Unit
may move in a sideways direction. You should
therefore always be sure to hold onto the
Portable Vacuum Unit when starting.
• The fan can become very hot, even during
normal operation. Prevent overheating by
ensuring that a flow of air passes the fan. Ob-
structing hoses, a closed flap valve or the mo-
tor rotating in the wrong direction can cause
overheating.
• For setting values, see instructions in Starter.
4.1 Connecting and starting 30S
The suction hose is connected to the flap valve.
The starting handle makes it possible to start in both
directions of rotation.
• When starting, check the rotational direction of the
motor, compare with arrow. In the right direction, al-
low the motor to reach full revs. If the rotation is in
the wrong direction, turn back to zero, allow the mo-
tor to stop and then start in the other direction.
In the wrong direction, the back-flush valve prevents
air from being sucked backwards through the Portable
Vacuum Unit.
4.2 Connecting and starting 55S, with
side channel fan
The suction hose is connected to the flap valve. The
starting handle makes Y/D start possible in both rota-
tional directions.
• When starting, the hand lever for filter cleaning
should be pressed in and the motor’s direction of ro-
tation compared with the arrow. When the rotation
is in the right direction, allow the motor to reach full
revs before switching to D position. Then release
the hand lever.
• If the rotation is in the wrong direction, turn back to
zero, allow the motor to stop and then start in the
other direction. In the wrong direction, the back-
flush valve prevents air from being sucked back-
wards through the Portable Vacuum Unit . The start-
ing procedure is made considerably more difficult
if the hand lever is not pressed in, and the starting
equipment can be damaged.
4.3 Motor protection Portable Vacuum
Unit
See Figure 8 . If the motor protection was activated
and turned off the motor:
Starters without a reset button feature automatic re-
setting of the motor protection on restart:
• Turn the Start switch (a) to the 0 position; a restart
can then be made.
Starters with a reset button are reset as follows:

Turn the Start switch (a) to the 0 position.
2 Press in the button (b).
3 The unit can now be restarted.
NOTE!
Check and rectify the reason why the motor
protection activated.
4.4 Cleaning equipment
• CE500 is used for heavy duty cleaning.
• CE450 is used for normal cleaning.
• CE370P is used for fine cleaning.
• CE50 SN is used for metal chips cleaning.
NOTE!
Worn parts are to be replaced.
4.5 Transport and lifting
WARNING! Risk of personal injury
It is prohibited to be underneath the Portable
Vacuum Unit when lifting. Lifting the Portable
Vacuum Unit by the handle located on top of
the motor assembly is prohibited.
The Portable Vacuum Unit can be transported vertic-
ally or horizontally.
