DATA STORAGE DEVICES
The system board in the computer supports the following storage devices:
n
up to two diskette drives, including the standard 1.44-MB diskette drive
n
up to four IDE devices such as IDE hard disk drives, the standard IDE CD-ROM
reader, and an IDE Zip drive.
Other storage devices might require the installation of a compatible controller board.
NOTE:
To take advantage of the system’s high
performance fast IDE feature, the standard hard
disk drive is connected to the primary PCI/IDE
port. However, the system should be configured
such that the device holding the most software
applications is connected to the primary PCI/IDE
port.
Device Slots
The system has six storage slots:
n
a 3 1/2-inch accessible device slot which contains the standard 1.44-MB diskette
drive
n
two internal hard disk drive slots
The front internal 3 1/2-inch slot contains the standard IDE hard disk drive
(1-inch high, thin-height)
The rear internal 3 1/2-inch slot is available for a second hard disk drive.
n
three 5 1/4-inch accessible device slots (1.6-inch high, half-height)
The top accessible device slot contains the standard CD-ROM reader.
The middle accessible device slot contains the Zip drive in some 2516 models.
Additional accessible devices (diskette drive, Zip drive) can be installed in the
unused 5 1/4-inch slots.
A hard disk drive with a 5 1/4-inch form factor can also be installed in a 5 1/4-
inch slot.
Figure Section 3-17 shows the device slot locations in the system.
