Suspend Button
Press the suspend button (see Figure 2-8) to place the unit in the maximum power
management mode.
The power lamp blinks when the system is in the power-saving Suspend mode.
Press the suspend button again to place the system back in Full-Power mode.
If the system is left alone for a preset time, it goes into the automatic Standby mode. The
screen goes blank and the system goes into a power-saving mode of operation. After a
continued period of inactivity, the system goes into Suspend mode. Moving the mouse or
pressing a key on the keyboard activates the Full-Power mode.
NOTE:
If the Auto Insert Notification feature is
enabled, the system is prevented from entering
Suspend mode in Windows 95.
Reset Button
Press the reset button (see Figure 2-8) to manually restart the system when it does not
respond to keyboard commands.
CD-ROM READER
An eight-speed CD-ROM reader comes pre-installed as drive F in the system. The reader is
set as a master device, and is connected to the secondary PCI/IDE port on the system
board. Specifications and jumper settings for the CD-ROM reader are given in Appendix D.
Use the CD-ROM reader to load and start programs from a CD or to play audio CDs. The
CD-ROM reader has the following controls and indicators (see Figure 2-9):
jack for connecting headphones with a stereo mini-jack plug
volume control for adjusting the headphone volume
CD busy lamp that lights when the reader is retrieving data, music, or
graphics/audio from a CD
open/close button for opening or closing the CD tray when the power is on. With
some readers, pressing this button also stops playing a music CD
CD tray that opens and closes when the open/close button is pressed
emergency eject hole in the front panel for manually opening the CD tray if power
is lost. Insert a straightened paper clip into the hole about an inch until the tray
opens.
