Upgrades and Options
Replacing the Battery
Notice: Observe static precautions. Use an antistatic
wrist strap.
1.
Power off the system and remove the top cover as
described earlier in this chapter.
2.
To gain access to the battery, remove the processor
boards, refer to Removing the Processor Board
earlier in this chapter.
3.
Using your finger nail or a small pointed tool,
gently push the battery toward the left and pry the
battery out of its socket. Refer to Figure 5-11 for
the socket location.
4.
Position the new battery over its socket so the plus
(+) sign on the battery is facing up.
5.
Carefully insert the left edge of the battery into the
socket connector and gently push the battery into
the socket.
6.
Press down on the battery until it is firmly seated
in its socket.
7.
Reinstall the processor boards that were removed in
step 2, refer to Installing the Processor Board
earlier in this chapter.
8.
Replace the top cover and turn on the system.
9.
Run the BIOS Setup or SCU to restore configuration
settings to the real-time-clock.
