Data Line Surge Protector Replacement
See Figure
MD-1
in the Mechanical Drawings section (Section 6) of this manual.
1. Open the system cabinet’s rear door and locate the data line surge protector (U8) mounted
on a bracket that is connected to the tray near the top of the cabinet.
2. Loosen the customer access screw and open U8’s access cover.
3. Remove the protective rubber warning cover to allow access to the Nautel installed wiring
inside U8. Remove the red and green wire pairs (#s 116 and 117) from U8-R and U8-G.
4. Loosen the

screw to remove the protective cover and access the
terminals. Remove the customer supplied telephone connections that are secured on the
TB1-1 and TB1-2 terminals. Remove the green/yellow wire (# 118) from U8-Gnd.
5. Remove the data line surge protector from the system cabinet, noting it is secured using two
M4 screws. Retain hardware to install the new data line surge protector.
6. Locate or obtain a replacement data line surge protector (Nautel Part # UE62). Reverse
Step 1 through Step 5 to reinstall the new data line surge protector, noting proper routing of
wiring. If necessary, refer to Table 3.3 on page 3-2 for connection details.
