Printer driver
Software that controls the various functions of the printer from the
host computer. The printer driver sends data from an application in
a format that the printer can accept so that the document can be
printed.
Print job
A document that an application has processed and sent either
directly to the printer or to the print queue.
RAM
Random Access Memory. The portion of the printer’s memory
used as a buffer and for storing user-defined characters. All data
stored in RAM is lost when the printer is turned off.
Reset
Clears the print buffer and places the printer on-line. Unlike
initialization, reset leaves the currently selected settings in effect.
Reset does not restore the power-on defaults.
Resolution
Refers to printing clarity. Resolution depends on the number of
dots per inch. High resolution (more dots) is finer and more precise
than low resolution, which is coarser with rougher edges.
ROM
Read Only Memory. A portion of memory that can only be read
and cannot be used for data storage. ROM retains its contents when
you turn off the printer.
Saturation
The level of color vividness. Higher saturation levels produce
lively colors while lower saturation levels produce somber grays.
Scalable font
A font capable of being printed in any point size. The outlines of
curves in scalable fonts are defined so that they appear smooth
even when enlarged.
