Steering Lock

Steering is locked w hen the
key is w ithd ra w n and the steer
ing lock is engaged. The key
can be w ith d ra w n only in zero
position.
Note:
Do not remove key from steer
ing lock while the vehicle is in
m otion as this w ill cause the
engagem ent of the steering
lock thus rendering the vehicle
inoperable.

Steering is unlocked.
(If necessary, move steering
wheel slightly to turn the key
clockw ise to position " 1".)

Preglowing and driving position.
Starting: continue turning key
clockw ise to the stop. The
starter is engaged w hen the key
is pressed against the stop.
The starter nonrepeat unit
requires the key to be returned
to position " 0 " prior to
a new starting attem pt. For
starting and turning o ff the en
gine, refer to page 40.
Notes:
The fo llo w in g items can be
operated w ith the key in steering
lock position " 1":
W iper, w indshield washer, head
lamp flasher, electric lighter, glove
com partm ent lamp, radio, electric
seat heater fo r fro n t seats.
The pow er supply to the standing
lamps is disrupted if the key in the
steering lock is in position " 2 ".
A w arning buzzer sounds w hen the
key has been left in steering lock
positions " 1" or " 0" and the driver's
door is opened.
Idle Speed A d ju ster
Turning counterclockw ise = idle
speed increases.
Turning clockw ise = idle speed
decreases.
