Understanding APX 1000 slot cards
Ingress slot cards
Ingress cards support digital line connections (usually channelized) for incoming connections
to the APX 1000. These cards are designed to occupy slot number 5, except for the narrow
width 8-port E1 card, which can be installed in slots 1 to 4.
DSP slot cards
DSP cards support the processing of the line or modem protocols for the incoming
connections. These cards can occupy slots 1 through 4, although slot 1 is generally reserved for
the egress card.
Egress slot cards
Egress cards support connections to one or more networks, for routing the data to and from the
individual connections supported by the ingress cards. Only one egress card is generally
required. Slots 1 through 4 support this card, although it is generally placed in slot 1.
