Powering up an APX 1000 unit
Note:
Before powering up an unconfigured APX 1000 unit, you must connect it to a
workstation. For instructions, see “Connecting a workstation to the APX 1000 serial port” on
page 3-12.
To power up your new APX 1000 unit:
1
Position yourself so that you can observe the lights on the back panel while you view the
monitor display.
2
Turn on the power to the unit.
After a few minutes, the terminal emulator displays system messages. If the messages do
not appear, press Ctrl+L to refresh the screen. If they still do not appear, verify that the
terminal emulator is connected with a straight-through serial cable and is using the
settings listed in step 2 of “Connecting a workstation to the APX 1000 serial port” on
page 3-12.
3
Check the PCMCIA flash card file system to verify that the card and its contents have no
errors. Enter the Fsck command as shown in the following example:
admin> fsck 1

Installing or replacing APX 1000 slot cards
The APX 1000 product is designed to serve primarily as a remote access server for data and
voice over data connections. It is shipped with specific slot cards to support this role.
Some slot cards from the larger APX family of products are not appropriate for installation in
an APX 1000 unit. If you are installing a slot card that was not shipped with the APX 1000,
make sure that it is appropriate for installation in this unit, and that the software running on the
APX 1000 supports the card.
