Configuring The JD Oil Mist Generator
A number of settings must be configured into the JD Oil Mist Generator for Modbus communication to work
properly. Most of these settings must also be configured into the software of the host computer, see
C
onfiguring The Host Computer
. Before the configuration can begin, the following information will be
needed:
The particular Modbus slave address to be used by this JD unit (a number from 1 to 247)
The mode to be used for communication (RTU or ASCII)
The parity to be used for communication (None, Even, Odd, Mark or Space)
The number of Stop Bits (1 or 2)
The serial speed to be used for communication (300, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 or 19,200 bps)
It is recommended that this information be documented in a readily accessible location for future reference.
Once this information is known, follow these steps to enter it into the JD Oil Mist Generator:
1. Press the SET key followed by the ENTER key.
2. Unique Unit Numbers should be used if there is more than one JD connected to the same host
computer. Use the INC and DEC keys to select a unique unit number, and press the ENTER key. If
only one JD is connected to a host computer, simply press the ENTER key again to skip over the
Unit Number (it does not affect Modbus communication).
3. The Modbus slave address should now be displayed (001 is the default). If there is more than one
JD connected to the host computer different slave addresses must be used. If it is not as desired,
use the INC and DEC keys to set the Modbus slave address from 1 to 247. Press the ENTER key to
save the address.
4. The Modbus Transmission Mode should now be displayed (RTU and ASCII). If it is not as desired,
use the INC and DEC keys to toggle the mode between RTU and ASCII. Press the ENTER key to
save the mode. (RTU is the default and Recommended)
5. The Modbus Parity should now be displayed. If it is not as desired, use the INC and DEC keys to
toggle the parity mode between None, Even, Odd, Mark or Space. Press the ENTER key to save the
parity mode. (EVEN is the default and Recommended)
6. The number of Stop Bits should now be displayed. . If it is not as desired, use the INC and DEC
keys to toggle between 1 and 2. Press the ENTER key to save.
7. The Serial Speed should now be displayed. If it is not as desired, use the INC and DEC keys to
select among the available speeds. Press the ENTER key to save the speed. (9600 Baud Rate is
the default and Recommended).
Once ENTER key is pressed after setting the Serial Speed the display screen sequence continues to set
other system features that do no effect Modebus communication. Press the CLEAR key to return to Run-
Time screen and normal operation. The JD Oil Mist Generator software is now ready to begin Modbus
communication.
Configuring The Host Computer
The host computer must be configured according to the specific instructions outlined below for the Modscan
screen to send and receive data to the JD Oil Mist Generator. (See
Configuring The JD Oil Mist Generator
):
Please note if another host computer Modbus software is to be used all settings must be the same in the JD
Oil Mist Generator as they are in the host computer. Failure to enter the correct parameters will cause a
communications error.
