Mist Density Monitor Option
The LubriMist® Mist Density Monitor is a proprietary sensor manufactured by CFH Reliability Services. The
Mist Density Monitor is a solid state device that detects fluctuations in oil mist density. The LubriMist® Mist
Density Monitor’s user selectable sensitivity adjustment provides continuous on-line monitoring of the oil mist
density in the supply header, allowing oil mist users to optimize oil consumption without over or under
lubricating machinery. Continuous monitoring is accomplished through the JD controller. Once the oil mist flow
reaches the detector, the LubriMist® Mist Density Monitor will automatically respond to changes in the oil / air
ratio.
In operating the LubriMist® Mist Density Monitor, it is important to understand that although any given out-put
reading may correspond to a quantitative oil/air ratio, the Mist Density Monitor does not make a mass
measurement of the amount of oil suspended in the air. The output signal range of 0-100 percent mist density
represents a change in the ability of a light beam to penetrate the oil mist sample as it passes between a light
source and a light detector. A mist density reading of zero indicates that no or a very small amount of oil mist is
present, thereby allowing the light to easily reach the photo detector. As the oil/air ratio increases, the small oil
particles reflect and block the light from the detector causing a change in the mist density reading. When the
light can no longer penetrate the photo optical bench, the LubriMist® Mist Density Monitor reads 100%.
The LubriMist® Mist Density Monitor is connected to the controller with a flexible cord. Alarms for high and
low mist density are activated when the monitor detects an opacity reading outside of the preset operating
set-points. The use of the High Mist Density alarm is user selectable.
