8.2.7 Specimen retraction
The specimen retraction protects the knife and speci-
men from damage. In motorized operation the retrac-
tion value varies with the selected sectioning speed.
When retraction is activated, the retraction value for
manual sectioning can be selected via the retraction
menu. The specimen retraction can be deactivated if
required via the retraction menu.
Specimen retraction on/off
(Default setting = 'on')
Push the µ/n and CLEAR buttons
simultaneously
to
access the retraction menu.
When retraction is deactivated, the display reads 'oFF'
and RETRACT (yellow) no longer illuminates.
When retraction is activated the display reads 'on'.
To deactivate, push the coarse feed button at the
rear.
To activate, push the coarse feed button at the front.
Push the CLEAR button to exit the menu.
Selecting the retraction value for manual sectioning
(Default setting = 10 µm)
Enter the menu and activate the specimen retrac-
tion as described above.
To view the currently selected value (e.g. 15 µm)
push the µ/n button.
To decrease the value, push the coarse feed but-
ton at the rear.
To increase the value, push the coarse feed button
at the front.
Setting range: 5 µm, 10 µm, 15 µm, 20 µm.
The selected value is maintained even if the instrument
is turned off.
Push the CLEAR button to exit the menu.
The display will return to the selected section or trim-
ming thickness indication.
