FIELD OPERATION
4-7.1
The correct preparation of the seedbed
can be one of the most vital steps in the
growing cycle. Properly firming and sealing
the soil before and after planting can result in
increased yields.
4-7.2
The 3210 is capable of working at speeds
up to a maximum of eight miles per hour.
The most effective soil preparation will occur
when operating between four and six miles
per hour. This speed range will permit proper
tooth action and constant, maximum soil
firming.
4-7.3
The machine should be raised to the trans-
port position prior to turning in the field. Turn-
ing the mulcher in the working position will
result in excessive strain on the spring teeth
and the roller gang, thus, reducing the life of
the machine.
4-7.4
Be sure the tractor is in motion when low-
ering the spring tines into the ground or
when raising the tines out of the ground.
4-7.5
Never back up with the spring tines in the
ground.
4-7.6
The mulcher should not be used in wet
field conditions or when mud clings to all of
the rollers at one time. The soil will be ad-
versely affected and scraper life will de-
crease.

HITCH ADJUSTMENT
4-8.1
On 10’ to 15’ models:
a.
Level the mulcher by raising the machine to
transport position on a level ground surface.
b.
Engage the automatic transport lock into the
“lock” position.
c.
Place blocking under the front and rear roll-
ers.
d.
Loosen the four bolts which attach the front
of the springs to the tongue
(See Figure 4-2)
.
e.
Remove enough blocking from the high end
of the machine so it can be jacked into a level
position. The springs will now be in a new po-
sition of the tongue. Tighten the four bolts to
100 ft.-lbs. torque.
4-8.2
On 18’ models:
a.
With the mulcher in the transport position on
a level ground surface, place a jack and
blocking under the rollers on the heavy end of
the machine. Also place blocking under the
rollers on the light end of the machine.
b.
Loosen the four 7/8” nuts on the u-bolts
which attach the spring mount to the tongue
(See Figure 4-3)
. Remove enough blocking
from the high end of the machine so it can be
jacked into a level position. The spring mount
will now be in a new position on the tongue.
c.
Tighten the four u-bolts to prevent the
spring mount from slipping. Move the spring
mount rearward to transfer weight to the rear
of the machine. Move the spring mount for-
ward to transfer weight to the front of the ma-
chine.
