Field markers
Individual areas of the screen can be marked for user inputs or system outputs to allow
SCREENS to be used as a data entry mask in conjunction with the RESPONSE instruction
described earlier.

Input fields
Input fields are marked by the character sequence .. The location and length of this character
string defines the field in which the cursor appears during a data entry procedure.
Output fields
The instantaneous values of counters 1 to 32 can be displayed within a SCREEN which has
been called up by marking the screen item in question with the number of the counter in ques-
tion enclosing the number in a less-than sign and a greater-than sign. The count is displayed in
a 5-digit right-justified field whose first character (or blank character) appears instead of the
less-than sign:
For example, the character sequence <12> is shown as: 10 if the count in counter 12 = 10.
