5.8 Connecting USB devices
The Panel PC is equipped with four USB type A connectors on the I/O panel.
USB port name on the label is for reference only.
USB ports are hot plugging that is USB connectors can be plugged or unplugged
even if the Panel PC is switched on.
A further USB connector is available on frontal panel covered by a little door
(except for “True Flat” panel version).
The USB ports are compliant with USB rev. 2.0/1.1. The USB external devices
(e.g. printers) require a specific software driver. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions to install USB devices.
The total max. current, for external USB devices, absorbed from the USB
connectors must not exceed 0.5A for each connector. Furthermore the total power
(5V) absorbed must be within the limit (for expansion devices) specified in the
“Internal power supply” paragraph in this manual.
Refer to the motherboard user’s manual for further information.
Notice
Use a cable 5m max long to connect an external USB device to an
USB connector on the I/O panel.
Use a cable 4m max long to connect an external USB device to the
USB connector on the front panel.
After having unplugged a USB device wait for at least 10 sec. before
to plug it in again or plug in a different one.
If commercial USB type is used, the EMC immunity often is suitable
for office use only. For commissioning and servicing this devices are
enough. Moreover for industrial operation industry-standard devices
are recommended.
Caution
If the protection door that cover the USB interface on front panel is
opened to connect a USB device, the protection grade is
downgraded.
