6.5.2  Step by Step Instructions 

 

1.  Wrap the shaft with insulating tape.

The insulated surface has to cover a larger area than the Mu-metal to be applied  
subsequently in order to prevent short-circuit between the Mu-metal and the shaft. 

 
2.  Cut the first layer of the mu-metal with protective foil to the required length, it should be 

long enough to wrap around the shaft’s circumference. Pull off the protective film and glue 
the mu-metal onto the shaft (see figure 39). Its extremities must 

not

 touch; in order to 

prevent short-circuits. A gap of approx. 1mm is required.

3.  Insulate the mu-metal as described in step 1. 
 
4.  Apply the 2

nd

 mu-metal layer as described in step 2. Make sure to leave a gap of approx. 

1 mm between the edges.  
 

Please note:

 mu metal layer has to be offset by at least 90° from the
