Configuring
the
blade
server
for
Fibre
Channel
boot
If
you
plan
to
set
up
your
system
configuration
for
remote
startup
(boot)
operations
through
Fibre
Channel
switch
modules,
you
must
configure
the
blade
server
for
Fibre
Channel
boot.
Note:
The
IBM
Eserver
BladeCenter
JS20
Fibre
Channel
Expansion
Card
(part
number
73P6112)
must
be
installed
in
the
blade
server.
Complete
the
following
steps
to
configure
the
blade
server
for
Fibre
Channel
boot:
1.
From
the
management-module
Web
interface,
set
the
startup
(boot)
sequence
for
the
blade
server
to
Hard
drive

2.
Start
a
Serial
Over
LAN
(SOL)
session
with
the
blade
server;
then,
turn
on
the
blade
server.

the
BladeCenter
and
BladeCenter

Serial
Over
LAN
Setup
Guide
for
instructions.)
3.
Observe
the
progress
codes
on
the
console.
When
D5BB
appears,
immediately
press
the
8
key.
The
open
firmware
prompt
(>)
appears.
4.
At
the
open
firmware
prompt,
enter
the
following
commands:
dev
/packages/gui
setup-fcp-disk
The
open
firmware
Main
Menu
appears.
5.
From
the
Main
Menu,
select
option
2
(
Select
Media
Adapter
).
After
you
make
this
selection,
a
wait
message
is
displayed,
followed
by
the
Select
Media
Adapter
menu.
6.
From
the
Select
Media
Adapter
menu,
select
the
Fibre
Channel
adapter.
After
you
make
this
selection,
a
wait
message
and
several
additional
messages
are
displayed,
followed
by
the
Select
Device
menu.
7.
From
the
Select
Device
menu,
select
the
Fibre
Channel
device
that
you
want
to
set
as
the
boot
device.
After
you
make
this
selection,
the
Select
Task
menu
is
displayed.
8.
From
the
Select
Task
menu,
select
normal
boot
mode
.
(This
creates
an
ibm,fw-fcpdisk
alias
in
the
/aliases
node.)
After
you
make
this
selection,
the
command
prompt
appears.
9.
Restart
the
blade
server.
