misplaced the password and need console access. This button is provided for your
convenience, but its presence means that if you are concerned with the security of the switch
configuration and operation, make sure the switch is installed in a secure location, such as
a locked wiring closet.
•
Restoring Factory Default Configuration — When pressed with the Reset button in a specific
pattern, any configuration changes you may have made through the switch console, the
Web browser interface, and SNMP management are removed, and the factory default
configuration is restored to the switch. For the specific method to restore the factory default
configuration, see Chapter 4 in the HP ProCurve Switch 2800 Series Installation and Getting
Started Guide.
2.6.6 ProCurve 2824 Switch Overview
The HP ProCurve 2824 is a multi-port Gigabit switch that can be connected to an external
redundant power supply (RPS) unit. The characteristics of the HP ProCurve 2824 switch include
the following:
•
24 auto-sensing 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports
•
Dual-personality ports - 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports or mini-GBIC slots for optional
fiber–optic connectivity such as Gigabit-SX, -LX, or –LH
•
Plug-and-play networking
•
Automatic learning of the network addresses
•
Support for the Spanning Tree Protocol to eliminate network loops
•
48 Gbps backplane with up to 35.7 mpps
•
Stacking capability: single IP address management for a virtual stack of up to 16 switches
•
Port security to prevent unauthorized access using MAC address lockdown
2.6.6.1 ProCurve 2824 Network Ports

The following list identifies the port locations by the callouts in
Figure 2-16
.
1.
A single RS-232C DB-9 console port. Use this port to make a direct connection to the switch
for configuration and management access.
2.
20 RJ-45 10/100/1000 ports (IEEE 802.3 Type 10Base-T, IEEE 802.3u Type 100Base-TX, IEEE
802.3ab 1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet).
3.
4 dual-personality ports (numbered 21–24). Each port can be used as either an RJ-45
10/100/1000 port or an open mini-GBIC slot (for use with mini-GBIC transceivers).
2.6.6.2 ProCurve 2824 LEDs and Buttons
The ProCurve 2824 LEDs and buttons have the same functions and features as those for the
ProCurve 2848. See
Section 2.6.5
for a detailed description of those LEDs and buttons.
