Measurement tip
Hi/Low
impedance
If the measured impedance is greater than 1kΩ,
the standard four-terminal connection is not
necessary. Run S/C trim to remove the effect of
series lead impedance.
If the measured impedance is lower than 1kΩ,
four-terminal connection can reduce the effect of
contact resistance at the test component.
Metal component
case connection
A large area of metal can add noise to the
measurement. Here is how to minimize the effect.
If the metal is connected to one of the terminals,
this should be connected to the Hforce (Yellow)
terminal side.
If the metal is NOT connected to either of the
terminals, connect the GND clip.
Very Small Valued
Capacitors
When measuring small or SMD-size capacitors
with a very-low capacitance, run O/C trim at the
measurement frequency (Spot trimming) to
eliminate the residual capacitance. Make sure the
measurement lead positions are fixed during
trimming.
The O/C trimming value can be up to 100 less
than the actual measured value. For example: If
the open circuit capacitance of the circuit is 1pF,
and the DUT is 100pF, then ~1% of the
measurement is erroneous without O/C trimming.
It is recommend that for any capacitance less than
100pF, O/C trimming should first be performed.
