2.4 Intended use
Use the product only in accordance with the product description. The use is restricted to the
functions, technical data, applications and instructions described below. The use is only permitted
within the usage limits described in this manual for which our product was designed for. The product
was designed for these usage limits. Any other use is not permitted.
The motor-driven lock of series 21 serves exclusively for the locking and blocking of doors and is
determined to be installed in the active leaf of single-leaf or double-leaf doors made of timber or
steel. The motor-driven lock must not be used for purposes other than the intended use. 'Intended
use' comprises compliance the manufacturer's operating instructions, which is essential for the
avoidance of damage and injury.
Changes made to the product or to the connections without the consent of the Gretsch-Unitas
group exclude any liability of the manufacturer for any resulting damage.
2.5 Improper use
Any other use or use beyond the intended scope is not permitted and Gretsch-Unitas group will
not assume liability for the resulting losses. If the safety instructions are disregarded this is also
considered as 'improper use'. Unauthorised conversion or modification of the product is not
permitted.
If the product is used in one of the following conditions this especially, but not conclusively,
constitutes improper use.
– Disregarding and not following the instructions and safety instructions in this manual
– Improper transport, storage, installation, connecting, operation and maintenance
– Disregarding the installation tolerances
– Use of a motor-driven lock with motor-driven daytime release on fire and
smoke protection doors
– Modification of the lock with exception of the activities mentioned in these instructions
– Repairs carried out incorrectly
– Operation of panic or escape doors with key inserted
– Operation of a lock with traces of third-party or external influences
2.6 Misuse
The manufacturer will not accept liability for damage caused by misuse. To avoid misuse, especially
observe the following notes:
Mount the square spindle or locking cylinder only by hand, never insert or remove using
e.g. a hammer.
Never lift or carry the door leaf on the lever handle.
Load the lever handle only by hand in the specified direction of rotation.
Never apply force to open or close a door with installed lock.
Never drill holes in the lock. Remove the lock before drilling holes in the door leaf.
Before installing the lock, clean the lock recess.
Observe the installation tolerances.
Optional components or accessories may be installed without consent if the components or the
accessory has been approved for the product by the Gretsch-Unitas group.
