PL5200 Planter
Preparation and Setup
Storage
Possible Chemical Hazard
Seed disks will have talc and graphite residue,
and may have residue of hazardous seed
treatments. Do not wash disks where food is
prepared or where cookware and dinnerware
is washed. Wear gloves when washing disks.
Avoid spray.
Roll-Away Hazard
There is not enough weight on parking stands
to anchor planter on a slope. Do not unhitch
planter while on a steep slope. Always block
tires when unhitching from tractor and follow
the storage instructions. Never park the
planter, even for brief periods of time, with the
planter unhitched from a suitable tractor.
Crushing and Overturn Hazards
Never unhitch, park, or store a folded PL5200
Stack-Fold Planter. An unhitched folded stack-
fold planter could topple backward or forward
immediately, or at some later time, causing
serious injury or death, and certain severe
equipment damage. When unhitched, the
PL5200 Stack-Fold Planter is supported in
front only by the parking stands, and at the
rear only by press wheels and spring tension.
Slopes, soft soils, and soils later softened by
rain are particularity dangerous. Great Plains
strongly recommended the planter is parked
on a level, debris-free, concrete surface
whenever possible.
Store the planter where children do not play. If
possible store inside for longer life of the planter.
Great Plains strongly recommends the planter is

1. Unfold the planter, if necessary. The planter
should always be stored unfolded.
2. Set the fold circuit to “Neutral” to prevent wing
droop.
3. Install the wing locks pins on the toolbar coupling.
4. Lower the implement to just above ground level
at the rear of row units.
5. If the ground is soft, place a board or plate under
each stand to increase contact area.
6. Engage parking stands.
7. Lower the tractor 3-point until the planter is
resting on parking stands.
8. Empty the hopper(s), if material is present.
9. Clean-out the air system.
10. Remove in-cab console and store away from the
elements, shifting temperatures, and pests.
11. Remove seed disks from seed meters to relieve
pressure on the brushes. Clean the disks of
residue buildup.
12. Unlatch the hopper lid(s) so that the seals are not
in compression during storage. Route a chain or
security cable through the hold-down U-bolt and
the latch handle to prevent unauthorized entry,
and prevent high winds from opening the lid(s).
13. Clean planter of mud, dirt, excess oil, and
grease.
14. Lubricate all points according to “
15. Apply grease to exposed cylinder rods to prevent
rust.
16. Inspect the planter for worn or damaged parts.
Make repairs and service during off season.
17. Use spray paint to cover scratches, chips, and
worn areas on the planter to protect the metal.
18. If stored outside, cover the planter with a tarp.
