PL5200 Planter
Preparation and Setup
3. Turn the nut (1) for a fine-tune adjustment for the
gauge wheel to help achieve the 26 in (66 cm) for
the working height.
Lengthening spring linkage will raise the planter.
Shortening spring linkage will lower the planter.
4. Level the drill, if necessary.
Walkboard
Pinch Point and Crushing Hazards
Keep body parts clear from moving parts. Your
fingers, hands, and arms could be injured or
severed if caught in the folding ladder section
or is in the pathway of a falling ladder section.
Firmly support the lower ladder section as you
make adjustments until you confirm the pivot
pin has secured the lower ladder in the
desired position.
On PL5200 Planters configured with bulk seed
hoppers, there is a walkboard to allow for access to
the bulk hopper to load materials and complete
maintenance. On the rearward side of the walkboard
ladder is a pivot pin (1) which allows for the lower two
steps to be unfolded and folded, as needed. The
ladder should be folded for field use, parking, and
storage.
1. Pull pivot pin (1) outwards.
2. Fold lower ladder upwards, and insert the pivot
pin until locked in place for field use, transport,
parking, and storage.
To unfold walkboard ladder:
1. Pull pivot pin (1) outwards.
2. Unfold lower ladder downwards and insert the
pivot pin to lock in place for access to walkboard.
Loading Material
Agricultural Chemical Hazard
Read and follow all supplier cautions for safe
handling of treated seed.
Irritant Exposure Hazard
Do not mix lubricants into seed with hands or
any part of body. Wear protective equipment. Use
tools.
The PL5200 Planters may be configured with either a
bulk seed hopper or a row hopper. Great Plains does
not recommend loading material before transporting
the planter. The PL5200 Planter should be empty
during transport.
Bulk Seed Hopper
Entrapment and Rapid Suffocation Hazards
A hopper that is full, or appears full, can be an
entrapment hazard. You can sink all the way into
the grain an suffocate in a matter of seconds.
Never enter a hopper for loading, unloading, or
routine maintenance. Leave strainer in place
except when instructed to remove it. Keep lid
tightly closed during operation.
Seed is loaded into the bulk seed hopper from above.
1. Lift the handle (1).
2. Swing the handle out until the hook (2) releases
from the u-bolt latch (3).
3. Move the hook clear of the latch.
4. Lift lid slightly at the pivot end to clear the strainer
(4).
5. Swing lid away from the opening.
6. Inspect the hopper to make sure it contains only
the expected material.
7. Load the seed.
8. If equipped, make sure the bulk hopper level
sensor is connected to the console harness.
9. Close and latch lid.
