Empty seed before transporting if at all possible. The
planter cannot be transported full of grain.
Transport the planter only while in the folded position.
Ensure all cylinder locks are in place.
Ensure the wing flex pins are installed on the wing
pivots.
Always use warning lights when transporting the
planter.
Comply with all national, regional, and local safety
laws when traveling on public roads.
Remember that the planter is wider than the tractor.
Allow safe clearance.
Parking
Roll-Away Hazard
There is not enough weight on parking stands
to anchor planter on a slope. Do not unhitch
planter while on a steep slope. Always block
tires when unhitching from tractor and follow
the instructions found under “
page 25. Never park the planter, even for brief
periods of time, with the planter unhitched from
a suitable tractor.
Crushing and Overturn Hazards
Never unhitch, park, or store a folded PL5200
Stack-Fold Planter. An unhitched folded stack-
fold planter could topple backward or forward
immediately, or at some later time, causing
serious injury or death, and certain severe
equipment damage. When unhitched, the
PL5200 Stack-Fold Planter is supported in
front only by the parking stands, and at the
rear only by press wheels and spring tension.
Slopes, soft soils, and soils later softened by
rain are particularity dangerous. Great Plains
strongly recommended the planter is parked
on a level, debris-free, concrete surface
whenever possible.
Follow these steps when parking the drill for periods
of less than 36 hours. For longer periods, or
whenever the planter is unhitched from a suitable
tractor for any length of time, follow storage
instructions, “
” in the following section.
1. Position the planter on firm, level ground.
2. Unfold the planter.
3. Set the fold circuit to “Neutral” to prevent wing
droop.
4. Install the wing locks pins on the toolbar coupling.
5. Lower the planter to just above ground level at
the rear of row units.
6. Shutoff tractor, set parking brake, and remove
key.
7. If the ground is soft, place a board or plate under
each stand to increase contact area.
8. Engage parking stands.
9. Lower the tractor 3-point until the planter is
resting on parking stands.
10. Unplug light harness and console harness.
Protect connections with any plugs or caps
provided.
11. To prevent rolling, block the tires securely.
12. Relieve hydraulic pressure, shut down hydraulics,
and unplug hydraulic lines from the tractor. Do
not allow hose ends to rest on the ground.
