Steering System
Structure & Working Principles of the Steering System
The bus needs to change its traveling direction from time to time. For that purpose, the driver has to
operate one dedicated mechanism through which the wheels are deviated from the longitudinal axis of the
bus by a certain angle. In addition, the bus will be interfered by road conditions during straight traveling
and thus the steering wheels may be deviated subject to external forces so that the bus traveling direction
is changed. In this case, this mechanism can help the bus resume its original straight traveling direction.
This mechanism used to change or resume the bus’s traveling direction is called automobile steering
system . XML6125J33C type passenger car adopts a hydraulic power steering system .
The steering force applied on the steering wheel is transmitted to the hydraulic power steering gear
via the steering shaft; and in the meantime as the mechanical speed reduction transmission is underway,
through the rotary valve’s controlling of the hydraulic system, the hydraulic booster cylinder timely joins
together to turn the lower pitman arm for steering, then directly push the steering link rod; and after
magnification & boosting, the steering force is transmitted to the steering knuckle arm of the front axle
assembly, which in turn pushes the turning wheels to deflect and therefore realizes the purpose of driving
direction change. In case the hydraulic system fails to boost, the mechanical transmission alone can still
fulfill the function of direction change, however, larger force applied on the steering wheel is needed.
The steering system can be divided into a mechanical transmission system and a hydraulic boosting
system; for the mechanical transmission system, with the steering gear as a reference point, it can be
divided into a steering force input part (the steering wheel and the steering transmission device) and a
steering force output part (the steering link rod device).
