5.2.2. Thermal Configuration
The Thermal Configuration features the following submenu to configure the system’s
thermal parameters:
Submenu Description
CPU Thermal
Configuration
Configures the CPU’s thermal parameters by the following setting:
Setting Description
DTS SMM
Sets how to obtain the CPU temperature.
DTS means the on-die “Digital Thermal Sensor“, and
SMM means “System Management Mode“, a real-mode
environment with 32-bit data access which is activated
in response to an interrupt type or using the System
Management Interrupt (SMI) pin.
Select Disabled to have ACPI thermal management use
EC reported temperature values. (The default setting.)
Select Enabled to have ACPI thermal management use
DTS SMM mechanism to obtain CPU temperature values.
Select Critical Temp Reporting (Out of Spec) to have
ACPI management use EC reported temperature values
and have DTS SMM handle the out-of-spec.
Platform Thermal
Configuration
Configures the platform’s thermal parameters by the following settings:
Setting Description
Critical Trip Point
Sets the “Critical Trip Point“, the threshold temperatures
at which the OS will shut off the system.
Options available are: POR (meaning “Plan of
Record”, the default setting),

C , 47 C , 55 C , 63 C , 71 C , 79 C , 87 C , 95 C , 103 C ,
111 C , 119 C , 127 C .
Active Trip Point
Lo Fan Speed
Sets the ACPI "active trip point" temperature for the OS
to turn on the CPU fan low, or disables the feature.
Options available are: Disabled , 15 C , 23 C , 31 C ,
39 C , 47 C , 55 C (the default), 63 C , 71 C , 79 C ,
87 C , 95 C , 103 C , 111 C , 119 C .
Active Trip Point
Hi Fan Speed
Sets the ACPI “active trip point” temperature for the OS
to turn on the CPU fan high, or disables the feature.
Options available are: Disabled , 15 C , 23 C , 31 C ,
39 C , 47 C , 55 C , 63 C , 71 C (the default), 79 C ,
87 C , 95 C , 103 C , 111 C , 119 C .
Passive Trip Point
Sets the ACPI “passive trip point” temperature for the
OS to start throttling the CPU, or disables the feature.
Options available are: Disabled , 15 C , 23 C , 31 C ,
39 C
,
47 C
,
55 C
,
63 C
,
71 C
,
79 C
,
87 C
,
95 C
(the
default), 103 C , 111 C , 119 C .
