About your home network
Before you begin, you must have a Microsoft Windows-based home network

the manufacturer. The Gateway Connected DVD Player supports all major types
of home networks, including:
■
Wired Ethernet
A wired Ethernet network consists of two or more devices connected
through an Ethernet cable.
■
Wireless access point
A Wireless access point network uses radio waves to link devices using a
wireless network card, an access point, and a wired Ethernet network.
■
Wireless peer-to-peer
A wireless peer-to-peer network consists of two or more wireless Ethernet
computers that communicate with each other without a wireless access
point.
If your Gateway Connected DVD Player came with a network card, the card is
one of the following types:
■
PC Card to Ethernet adapter card
■
Wireless 802.11b network PC Card
Important
If you are using a wireless network with an access point,
be sure to configure the access point according to the
manufacturer’s instructions before continuing.
