MAINTENANCE AND
INSPECTION
5.1
General
If cracks, excessive wear etc. is recognised, contact
Forum B + V Oil Tools GmbH or an authorised service
company. Weldings of the castings should be done only
by Forum B + V Oil Tools GmbH or an authorised service
company in according to Forum B + V Oil Tools welding
procedure. A regular preventative maintenance program
should be established for all elevators. These written
maintenance procedures should be given to the crew or
maintenance personnel.
5.2
Daily Inspection and Lubrication
5.2.1 Locking of screws
All screws are normally secured by self-stopping threads.
All other screws are secured by metal adhesive (locktite).
After disconnecting the screws, secure them by using an
appropriate metal-adhesive.
5.2.2 Lubrication general
The inside taper of the drilling bowls and back of the slips
segments have to be regularly cleaned and lubricated to
prevent slips from sticking in the bowls. Inspect the inserts
periodically and replace if necessary. Always grease the
inserts slots when installing inserts. Failure to routinely
grease insert slots will cause the inserts to stick.

5.2.3 Lubrication points and areas
The maintenance of the SDL Side Door Elevator essentially
includes the lubrication of the mechanical components.
The lubrication must be inspected at the stipulated
inspection intervals and if necessary, must be repeated.
Check the following components:
» Hinge pin
» Latch pin
» Springs of the locking system
» Latch handle pin and locking system

Carry out the lubrication according to the following work
steps:
1. Lubricate the hinge pin at the grease nipple with a
hand grease gun until the grease comes out uniformly
from the hinge openings.
2. Lubricate the springs of the latch system by applying
grease with a brush.
3. Lubricate the catch pin by applying a uniform film of
lubricant on the surface with a brush.
4. Lubricate the latch handle pin and the latch system. To
do this, take care not to pull the bolts out fully and with
a brush apply a uniform film of lubricant on the surface.
