Ice Production Considerations
The capability of an ice cuber to efficiently produce ice at or near its rated capacity can be
affected by the following: ambient air temperature, incoming water temperature, proper ongoing
machine maintenance, as well as the age and total lifetime use of the machine.
Temperature Considerations
You should carefully validate the site before committing to a machine installation or beginning to
spend any funds to prepare the site. The ambient air temperature range at the machine site is
important. There is an operating range of ambient air temperatures which will affect the ability
and efficiency of the ice cuber to produce ice. This range is typically about 48
o
F – 105
o
F. As the
ambient air temperature approaches the upper limits of this range, then the machine’s ice
production efficiency will decline. In extreme temperatures, the ability of the machine to produce
ice will be significantly impaired. For more details on this please refer to the manual for your
Scotsman ice cuber.
Low Temperatures - Machines should not be placed in any climate that will have freezing
temperatures unless steps are taken to prevent freezing. .If the ambient air temperature drops
below freezing, many different parts of the machine and ice cuber will be severely damaged.
Please note that machines that fail due to freezing temperatures void their warranty. For that
reason, take the proper steps to either winterize your machine during the cold months or
properly protect the machine with alternate warming solutions. If the machine will be in freezing
conditions, it must be winterized. See Winterization Procedure.
High Temperatures - Warm climates will not damage the machine. The machine is designed to
properly allow air to flow into the ice cuber and out of the machine through a ventilation system
and louver panels. Please note that high temperatures can affect the ability of the ice cuber to
produce ice. Please refer to the Scotsman ice cuber manual for more details on proper
operating temperatures. If the machine will be operated in warm climates, a shaded location
would increase the efficiency of the machine. Fans may also be installed inside the unit facing
outward from the Scotsman air exhaust.
Machine Maintenance Considerations
The machine is reliable but it is NOT maintenance-free. To ensure the success and proper
operation of the machine, Everest recommends preventive, once a week maintenance to
maintain reliability. It also requires on-site maintenance for breakdown or repairs. The machine
has a preventative maintenance schedule that must be followed for reliable operation. The
machine should be reasonably close to the person(s) who are going to do the preventative once
a week maintenance, because some of the required items (such as replacing stocks of bags
and removing coins/bills from the machine) may need to be done more frequently.
