Instructions for Safe Use
Automatic Shimming
The “automatic shimming test“, described in chapter “System
management” of user interface manual, was defined to evaluate, and if
necessary correct, homogeneity of the magnet.
This test is accessible to the user and should only be performed on request
by the Esaote Service personnel.
The configuration of the test includes:

knee coil 1
☛
the 140 mm spherical phantom. The phantom is filled with an aqueous
solution of NiCl2 and NaCl
☛
basic support for coil 1
☛
centering support for the spherical phantom diameter 140 mm
☛
The sequence Auto Shimming Correction which is located in the Auto
Shimming Correction folder into the Protocol list .
Test progress: Acquisition lasts approx. 25 minutes, after which the user
interface displays one of the following messages:

“Auto Shimming Correction complete”. This means that the system has
automatically corrected any deviations in uniformity of the magnetic
fringe field and that optimal conditions have been restored. If the test
does not detect conditions requiring corrections, the same message is
displayed but the test duration is halved.
Press Ok to close the dialog window and the system is ready to use.

“Auto Shimming Correction not performed. Request Technical
Assistance”. This means that the system has not automatically performed
the shimming correction process on the static magnetic field and Esaote
W a r n i n g
If the spherical phantom leaks some solution or breaks, the following
precautions should be taken:
- use gloves, goggles, safety clothing and footwear to handle the
leaked solution
- use inert material (sand or earth for example) to absorb the material
and clean the area with water
- collect the contaminant material and dispose of in accordance with
current national, federal and/or local standards.
If the solution in the phantom comes into contact with the skin, it may
cause an allergic reaction to the Nickel and in contact with the eyes
may cause irritation.
