cushions holder and inside the Coil 1 is shown in the following figure.
fig. 9.12 - Cradle shaped cushion on the holder
General use
The procedure for optimal use of the cushions is described in the patient
positioning protocol for each type of examination (chapters 11 to 16). This
procedure should be integrated with the instructions for using the patient
seat (chapter 6), shielding and insulating parts (chapter 7), coils
(chapter 8) and limb locking devices (chapter 6).
Each examination is accompanied by a description of the most suitable
cushions to be used and how these are positioned inside the coil and/or
gantry. The optimal cushion is specified with its abbreviated name (
P1
,
P2
,
P3
, etc.).
This section provides some general notes, applicable to all examinations:
☛
the cushions feature a high level of compressibility; it is therefore
necessary to select the cushion with the size most suited to preventing
movements of the limb examined
☛
the shape of the cushion recommended in the procedures below is the
optimal version; the choice of dimensions depends on the size of the limbs
examined
☛
as well as considerations regarding the patient's well-being, always
avoid contact between the skin and the coil surface as this may cause
signal hyperintensity
☛
the rectangular cushions can be combined or stacked to obtain larger
sizes
